UGH…Another baby?..Why?…

Truly, this is the question I get from both same sex couples as well as straight couples.  At first, I took it personally; “You don’t think I can handle another child?”  When I realized that I most certainly could, I questioned them further only to find out that it is their own insecurities, wants and desires that have never transpired.  For the record, it is not selfish to only want one child. It is being realistic in many cases. Having one child has made many realize that they simply didn’t “need” nor “want” anymore.  I got asked by a family member a couple of weeks ago, “You have a beautiful baby who you’ve raised so well…you don’t need another one!”.  But for some, like myself, I do.  And there is nothing wrong with that… Continue reading

I wanted to pull a little girls pony tail…

A fairly new child to our weekly playgroup annoyed me the other day!  She (yes I said she!) was adorable. Blonde ringlets in her pony tail, blue eyes, red red cheeks.  Like a little doll.  Came running up to Reagan and I and asked me where “way-guns” (Reagan’s) mommy was.  I thought to myself, ah cute little munchkin.  I knelt down, hand on my child’s head to somehow assure her of what I was about to say despite the fact she is 15 months old and doesn’t understand, and said “Well, Reagan has two daddies”.  She proceeded to say “I don’t understand”…repeatedly…loudly.  Practically stomped her feet! Like…she was pissed that the answer given was not the appropriate answer.  I felt like shouting “where is this 4 years olds parents?!”  The icing on the cake was that her mother was indeed listening to the entire incident.  I felt myself wanting to yank on her little ponytail to stop causing a scene and than slap her mother for not stepping in.  (…maybe I’m a bully…) Continue reading

9 Month Old Reagan…

My Little Love,

You’re at the three-quarter mark of your first year in this world.  The 9th month of your beautiful life and every day has been amazing to your Daddy and Papa.  Our experience with you has been unique, wondrous, and filled with awe.  We have enjoyed each day, each hour, and each second of your life as you have grown over these last 9 months and we are amazed at the little person that you are becoming.  While I have cheered loudly as you hit your milestones, I have been in no rush whatsoever for you to get to the next.  You have changed each and every day, and although I shouldn’t be, I’m already sad to say goodbye to the baby that you were.  No, I don’t miss teething or the sleepless nights, but I know that as you get older, you’ll want less and less to do with my two arms around your little body. Wonderment…

Wonderment is an emotion that is comparable to a surprise but that is more when people feel when perceiving something very rare or unexpected.  Wonder is a feeling of surprised amazement and so is wonderment.  If you feel wonderment, you can’t quite believe what you’re seeing.  Nonetheless, it is real…can be touched, felt.  Maybe even heard.  Wonderment is what I have been feeling over the last 3 months with our daughter. It’s a wonder what occurs with a little one and the growing that takes place in such a short time span. Continue reading

Giving Thanks…

Needless-to-say, we have so much to be thankful for this year.  On the top of the list, of course, is our daughter.  Seems to be she is always at the top of the list now-a-days, but I guess that is what being a parent is all about.  Than, we have the usual list of things…health, happiness, family, friends, financial security.  Seems a bit mundane to name off the same items year after year.  So this year, I would like to go a tad bit deeper than that.  Because, after all, there is so much more to be thankful for.   Continue reading

From The Stork…

Image

After being 11 days late, she finally decided to make her grand appearance on Wednesday August 7th at 8:23 pm, coming in at a whopping 8 pounds 10 ounces, 20 inches long, with a full head of black hair, the cutest little dimple, and truly breaking her Daddy and Papa’s heart with her coo’s and cries.  After the birth, a sleepless two and a half nights, and the anticipated signing of termination papers, I am thrilled to finally be able to introduce our daughter (by her name) Reagan Alma… Continue reading

SOS…it’s feeling like home…

The Hotel has begun to feel a bit like home.  We have our typical parking spot.  The front desk staff (the ones during the normal business hours at least) quite obviously know me by their smile that seems to say “why are you still here?”.  I send my bills and cards from the hotel.  We enter through the side entrance.  I bring my partner his coffee every morning, as the norm.  I tidy up our room on a daily basis. And to make matters worse…I stopped housekeeping from cleaning up the room this morning because I had already emptied our garbage pails out for her…I enjoyed helping her out too!  I need help… Continue reading
